Measuring Instruments.

 

Different measurement of quantities require different instruments. The way of measuring length is in deed quite different from the way  to measure mass of an object or time taken for an event occur or that happened. This means that we can not use a thread or rope to measure weight of an object but we rather use it to measure width or length of a room. In this you are going to read and see about which instruments required to measure certain quantities.

This article also will be restricted to some fundamental quantities such as length, mass and time.

1. Length

Length is a measure of the gap or interval between two points. There are  different instruments especially nowadays to measure length of an object, in which the choice of one to use depends on how longer the object is or how is it between the points that you wanted to measure. Below are some of the instruments we use to measure length.

a) The Meter rule

b) The vernier callipers

c) The micrometer screw gauge

d) The tape

2. Mass

Mass is a measure of quantity of matter an object contained. To measure mass we use balance, balance is of different types: chemical balance, spring balance, beam balance lever balance, a direct reading balance, e.t.c. The one to use depend on the object, because you may find very long or  huge object with light mass, so constituents matters.

3. Time

Time is measured using clocks. In the laboratory or for experimental purpose a stopwatch or stop clock is used. As we already know, time is the measure of how long it takes for an event to occur or time taken for an event that occurred. Now every one can measure time just by using their watches on their hands or using clocks attached in our parlours, theatres and offices.
